Is DataCamp Worth It in 2026? Honest Review, Pricing & Verdict
DataCamp is a subscription platform for learning data science, analytics and AI in your browser. This review covers what each plan includes, what its certifications actually are, and who gets real value from paying for it. DataCamp is worth paying for if you want a guided, exercise-based route into data, analytics or AI skills and you will use Premium for several months. If you only want to sample it, the free Basic plan covers the first chapter of every course. Two things to watch: promotional prices change, and partner exams (such as Microsoft’s) are billed separately from your subscription.
What Is DataCamp?
DataCamp teaches Python, R, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, machine learning, AI tools and related skills through short lessons and coding exercises that run directly in the browser. There is nothing to install, so you can start a lesson within a minute of signing up. DataCamp says more than 20 million people have learned on the platform, that 80% of Fortune 1000 companies use it, and that Premium includes access to 790+ courses. Those are the company’s own figures, not something we measured.
Beyond courses, the platform includes Career and Skill Tracks (a fixed sequence of courses toward a goal), real-world projects, live code-alongs, competitions, an online workspace called DataLab, and certifications. Which of these you can use depends on your plan, covered below.
How Much Does DataCamp Cost?
DataCamp has three plans for individuals and teams, plus a separate Enterprise plan for larger organizations. Here is what its pricing page showed on 29 September 2026, in US dollars:

Billing, pausing and student pricing
- Billing: subscriptions renew monthly or yearly depending on the option you choose, and DataCamp states you can cancel at any time.
- Pausing: monthly subscribers can pause their account for a chosen period. Yearly subscriptions cannot be paused.
- Students: eligible college students can apply for a Premium Student Plan, which DataCamp describes as currently more than 50% off the regular price.
- Employer budgets: DataCamp publishes an “expense” page with an email template for asking an employer to reimburse the cost.

Is DataCamp Actually Free?
Partly. The Basic plan costs nothing and lets you open the first chapter of every course, build a professional profile, use cheat sheets and tutorials, take skill assessments, join live code-alongs and competitions, and learn on mobile. Practice exercises and coding projects are limited, and certificates, certifications, full courses and tracks are locked. It works well as a trial to see whether the teaching format suits you before you pay.
Are DataCamp Certificates and Certifications Worth It?
People often mix up two different things here, and DataCamp treats them separately.
Certificates of completion
These are awarded when you finish a course or track on a Premium or Teams plan. They document that you completed the material. They are not exams and are not issued by an accredited university.
Certifications
Certifications are assessed through timed, scenario-based exams. DataCamp says they are built with an independent advisory panel of hiring managers and industry professionals, and are included in a Premium subscription at no extra cost. There are more than 20 of them, in three groups:
- Career certifications such as Data Analyst, Data Scientist, Data Engineer, and two AI Engineer associate credentials.
- Technology certifications such as SQL Associate, Python Data Associate and Tableau, plus preparation for partner exams: Microsoft Power BI (PL-300), Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900), Alteryx, AWS Cloud Practitioner, GitHub, KNIME, Google Cloud and Snowflake.
- Fundamentals certifications such as AI Fundamentals and Data Literacy, which do not expire.
The distinction that matters: DataCamp awards some certifications itself, while for partner certifications like PL-300 and AZ-900 it prepares you for the partner’s own official exam. You take that exam through the partner, and its fee is separate from your subscription. DataCamp lists a 50% discount on the official Microsoft exams for its learners.
Career and Technology certifications are valid for two years, after which you are invited to retake the exam. You have 30 days from registering to complete the requirements for a certification.
Our take: the certifications are worth doing because they force you to demonstrate skills under exam conditions, and the partner-aligned ones (Microsoft, for example) give you a credential that comes from a well-known vendor. Do not expect any certification alone to land a job. A portfolio of projects and the ability to talk through your work matter at least as much.
How Learning on DataCamp Works
Most lessons follow one pattern: a short video, then an exercise you complete in the browser with instant feedback. You rarely watch for more than a few minutes before writing code yourself. Career Tracks string courses into a set order toward a role such as data analyst or data scientist, so you do not have to design your own curriculum.
The trade-off is that guided exercises tell you what to do at each step. That is helpful when you are new, but it is not the same as building something from a blank file. If you already code, plan to pair DataCamp’s projects and DataLab workspace with a project of your own so you practice the parts a guided exercise handles for you.

Who Should and Shouldn’t Subscribe
Subscribe if you are starting a data or AI career and want a fixed path, you are preparing for a Microsoft, Tableau or similar exam, your employer will reimburse the cost, or you learn best by writing code in short daily sessions.
Skip it if your goals sit outside data and AI, you only want to preview courses (Basic covers that), you prefer open-ended project work over guided lessons, or you are unlikely to log in regularly. A subscription you do not use is the most common way to waste money on any learning platform.

Is DataCamp Worth It? Final Verdict
Worth it if you want structured, hands-on learning in data science, analytics or AI, and you will finish tracks and attempt at least one certification.
Not worth it if your learning goals are outside that focus, you only need the free previews, or you already work independently and just need documentation and your own projects.
Start on the free Basic plan, open the first chapter of two or three courses in the area you care about, and upgrade only if the format holds your attention.
